Directions on the Ballot Paper
Commonwealth (1998 Federal Election)
Number the boxes from "1" to "N" (where N equals the number of candidates) in the order of your choice.
Number every box to make your vote count.
New South Wales (1999 Legislative Assembly election - with any number of candidates)
Place the number "1" in the square opposite the name of the candidate for whom you desire to give your first preference vote.
You may, if you wish, vote for additional candidates by placing consecutive numbers beginning with the number "2" in the squares opposite the names of those additional candidates in the order of your preference for them.
Victoria (1999 Victorian Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council Election)
Number the boxes "1" to "N" (where N equals the number of candidates) in the order of your choice. Number every box to make your vote count.
Fold the ballot paper and put it in the ballot box or declaration envelope as appropriate.
Queensland (1998 Queensland State General election)
Place the number one ("1") in the square opposite the candidate of your choice.
You may if you wish indicate your preference for additional candidates by numbering the other squares in your preferred order.
Western Australia (1998 Legislative Council Election)
Mark your vote on this ballot-paper by placing the numbers "1", "2", "3"... "N" (where N equals the number of candidates) in the squares immediately to the left of the names of the respective candidates so as to indicate the order of your preference for them. Your vote is not counted unless you vote for at least 3 candidates.
South Australia (1997 House of Assembly election)
Mark your vote on this ballot paper by placing the numbers "1", "2" , "3"... "N" (where N equals the number of candidates) in the square opposite the names of the candidates so as to indicate your preference for them.
You are not legally obliged to mark the ballot-paper. After voting, fold the ballot-paper and place it in the ballot-box (or declaration envelope).
Tasmania (1998 Legislative Council Election)
Mark your vote on this ballot-paper by placing the numbers "1", "2", "3"... "N" (where N equals the number of candidates) in the squares immediately to the left of the names of the respective candidates so as to indicate the order of your preference for them. Your vote is not counted unless you vote for at least 3 candidates.
Northern Territory (1997 Legislative Assembly election)
Mark your vote on this ballot-paper by placing the numbers, "1", "2"... "N" (where N equals the number of candidates) in the squares respectively opposite the names and photographs of the candidates so as to indicate the order of your preference for them. Fold the ballot-paper and place it in the ballot-box.
