Terms of Members of Parliament/ Council Up to 3 years. 4 years fixed term with elections to be held on last Saturday in March. The last elections were on 27 March 2004.
Number of Members 89 elected from single-member electoral districts. Approximately 1,400 Councillors from 159 Councils.

Voting Systems (definitions) Optional Preferential. Optional Preferential (LGs with single-member wards or divisions); or First past the post (LGs with multi-member Divisions or undivided councils).
Mayors are directly elected under the same voting systems for Council.
Enrolment and Voting Eligibility Same as for Commonwealth but must be resident in Queensland for one month, with added enrolment provision for British subjects who qualify if on roll between 1 May and 31 July 1983. Enrolment and voting is compulsory for electors qualified to vote for Legislative Assembly.
Redistribution Provisions and Frequency Conducted under Electoral Act 1992. When approximate equality requirements no longer apply or after 3 general elections. Local Government Act 1993; and City of Brisbane Act 1924. Every 8 years in a cycle that commenced in 2000 for all divided Councils. Separate provisions apply for City of Brisbane.
Joint Rolls Arrangements between Commonwealth, States and Territories Since 1992. Electoral rolls are provided by the Electoral Commission Queensland.
